Boeing Commercial Airplanes will equip its 777-300ER airplanes with Securaplane’s Ground Maneuvering Camera System (GMCS) – a camera system that provides pilots with real-time views of the landing gear, ground conditions and proximity to the pavement edge during taxi maneuvers.
Securaplane’s new camera system will be fully backwards compatible with its legacy GMCS cameras on 777-300ER airplanes, and will be offered as an optional upgrade to the older systems. The new GMCS solution is technically superior to the existing system. It uses an all new small, lightweight camera which provides improved image quality, improved light balancing that is integrated into the existing mounting hardware.
The images will appear on a three-way, split screen, flight deck video display and the system operates in light levels ranging from bright sun and snow to full moon, night-flight conditions. The system can provide fixed views, or can be preprogrammed for dynamic video switching. The environmentally sealed cameras have been designed and certified for the rugged external airplane environment.
Because of its open architecture and modular design, GMCS can be modified to accommodate a variety of uses. Derivative configurations enable flight crews to monitor a wide range of airplanes systems on flight-deck video displays. Internal and external cameras can provide many views of airplane systems, including:
• Landing Gear
• Engines
• Control Surfaces
• Cabin and Cargo Areas
• Electronic Equipment Bays
Securaplane has more than a decade of camera design and manufacturing experience. The mature technology in Securaplane’s product has been flying successfully in multiple aerospace applications, from the smallest business jets to the largest commercial airplanes, including all 777-300/300ER airplanes manufactured to date.
