For Immediate Release Securaplane's XL246-A emergency battery system has been selected by Delta Airlines for its MD-80 aircraft as part of Delta's MD-80 Upgrade Program. On February 3, 1999, Securaplane received a signed contract from Delta Air Lines for its XL246-A emergency battery system as part of an upgrade program to enhance reliability. The Securaplane XL246-A emergency battery system will be used to provide backup power to the Inertial Reference Systems that will be installed on several MD-80s. Features of the XL246-A emergency battery system include diagnostics, built-in test equipment, and low cost battery replacement. There is no need to deep cycle or remove battery from aircraft for capacity check. A similar emergency battery, Securaplane=s XL246-S (now standard on all G-IVSP aircraft) has enhanced reliability tenfold over the units they replaced (AMPS 2000A). The XL246-A is currently PMA'd for Challenger 601-3A/3R, Gulfstream III, Falcon 50 aircraft, and soon on the MD-80 and MD-11. Securaplane manufactures several lines of emergency battery systems covering a wide range of aircraft. The XL246-A is a sealed-lead-acid-based direct replacement for the ACME AMPS 2000 Ni-Cad unit. Securaplane is a designer and manufacturer of emergency power systems, main aircraft battery chargers, electronic aircraft security systems, and wireless aircraft smoke detection/reporting systems. Securaplane is based in Tucson, Arizona. For more information contact Securaplane at: 10800 N.
