Securaplane received a PMA for its XL246-A Emergency Battery System for Boeing MD-88 Aircraft On January 21, 1998 Securaplane received a Parts Manufacturer Approval (PMA) from the Federal Aviation Administration for installation its XL246-A Emergency Battery System on MD-88 aircraft. The XL246-A is a direct replacement for the current Ni-Cad AMPS 2000 unit. The XL246-A features Sealed Lead Acid "Dry Cell Batteries" that require no maintenance and have exceptional high and low temperature characteristics. Features include enhanced shelf life compared to the Ni-Cad units they replace with no deep cycling or memory characteristics. Securaplane's XL246-S emergency battery (now standard on all G-IVSP aircraft with over 1200 units in service) has enhanced reliability tenfold over the units they replaced (AMPS 2000A). Most recent MTBF data for the XL246-A is over 27,000 hours with nearly 300 units in service on Canadair Challenger 601s, Dassault Falcon 50s, Gulfstream IIIs and others.
