For Immediate Release ------------------------------ Securaplane has been awarded a contract for reliability improvement from Northwest Airlines on their DC-9 fleet of airplanes. On March 1, 1996, Securaplane was informed that they had won a program for replacing the standard battery charger and main ship batteries on the DC-9 fleet of aircraft for Northwest Airlines. The program will include: a. Development and production of a new "intelligent" charger that will include substantial battery health monitoring capabilities. SAFT and Securaplane are jointly developing the optimum charging algorithm for the ULM, as well as non-ULM, batteries. b. Delivery of the new SAFT Ultra Low Maintenance (ULM) nickel cadmium battery. The ULM battery has a 2500 hour maintenance interval. The design will feature high reliability solid state AC to DC conversion, elimination of bulky transformers and incorporate microprocessor-based diagnostics. The charger will be capable of determining whether the battery or charger itself is at fault. The contract is for the Northwest Airlines fleet of DC-9 aircraft and covers approximately 120 aircraft. Securaplane is a designer and manufacturer of emergency power and electrical systems as well as electronic aircraft security systems. Securaplane is based in Tucson, Arizona.
